Sultan Al Qasimi is the first ruler who is completing continuous fifty years of ruling in the history of the United Arab Emirates
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah is continuing his 50 golden years of reigning since 1972. He is the fifteenth Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in a chain of Al Qasimi rulers since the year 1630. From 1971-72, he served as the UAE minister of education. He was President of the University of Sharjah and founder of several cultural institutions and civil society initiatives in support of identity building and nation-building. In addition to serving as President of the University of Sharjah, His Highness is also President of the American University of Sharjah since 1997. He is the recipient of numerous honorary degrees from universities around the world including Ph.D. from the UK. He has served as Honorary President of numerous organizations and associations inclusive of the Union of Arab Universities;
Al Qasimi is a visionary leader who has dedicated his life to enhancing the welfare of all segments of society across the United Arab Emirates. He has devoted considerable effort and resources to promoting the social, economic, and cultural development of the emirate. Known as a firm believer in the significance of the role arts and culture play in bridging the minds and souls of the people of the world, He is also an established historian and has published several theatrical and scholarly works. His Highness’s encouragement to build stronger social skills in citizens and the development of various charitable associations remains largely appreciated by even local communities. His Highness has positioned wonderful emphasis on nurturing civic attention, participation, and social obligations and has encouraged the status quo of many non-governmental groups to promote social interactions among the communities and the government.
His Highness had worked hard to develop human capital by supporting education and qualifying citizens to contribute to the country’s development and its achievements. His holistic vision towards education and maintaining the cultural remarks of UAE is renowned the world over. Sultans’ strong will to achieve unity and futuristic visions made the UAE people follow their wise leadership and made them role models of success. Sultan’s passion for keeping the spirit of history and heritage alive through incorporating tradition into every aspect of contemporary development history is displayed at museums and exhibitions. The effort to preserve the history and heritage of the land under the guidance of Sultan Al Qasimi is recognized by UNESCO and designated Sharjah as the cultural capital of the Arab world.
Sharjah turned the challenges of 2020 into achievements and is poised to grow in the development and progress. The Emirate is increasing its global stature by implementing a range of development projects in many sectors across various areas of the Emirate. During the year, H.H. the ruler of Sharjah inaugurated 25 major projects in the emirate. This will indicate that any of the situations did not constitute an obstacle to the ambitions of the Emirate of Sharjah and its sustainable development plans.
